The installation forms a tetralogy, viewed from an animal’s perspective. The first three chapters, presented as posters, were done during the first week of the course in the forests of Koli.
In the fourth chapter, Once Home to Us, animals respond to failed attempts at collaboration with humans by revealing what it means when human practices colonize their habitats. Since World War II, clear-cutting has been (and still is) the most popular tree-harvesting method in Finland.
Once home to as presents forestry from an animal point of view. A clear-cut forest is as useful to an animal as scrap steel sculptures in a studio. It is only a memory of what it once was and no longer provides shelter or a home.
